Reclining Long Pose

This is the first of a series of long pose drawing exercises I hope to complete over the course of this term.  I'm continuing to study the principles of drawing from observation with an emphasis on analyzing tilts and distances accurately.  I'm not really focusing on construction at all at this point; I'm more looking to establish accurate relationships at the 2-dimensional level.

The first image is my general lay-in of angles.  The idea is to purposely stay fairly abstract.  At this point in the drawing, Ryan had corrected a few of my tilts to get the drawing more accurate.  The 2nd image is the same drawing further along.  I'm trying to find peaks and valleys on the contour and communicate them with some sense of accuracy.  The exercise is difficult, but it's refreshing to be able to take my time, although in the end I think the contours turned out too harsh...  I'm not really ready for tone yet, but I will continue to practice the skill of checking and re-checking the drawing to get it as accurate as possible.  I worked on this one for about 4 hours total, off and on.

Holiday Sketch

The only real sketch I did over the break...  This is at the airport in Phoenix
