Final Posters from December

These are the last three poster paintings from class this past term.  It's been a challenge, but I have a lot of fun doing these studies, and hope to improve over time.  Next term, I am going to focus purely on drawing.  I hope to continue with painting on the side, to keep practicing, but I'm really looking to learn how to make accurate, tonal drawings from life.

Drawing Exercise

This was a drawing from class earlier tonight.  Unfortunately, I missed the point of the exercise which was to create a hierarchy of values, as a study for a smaller poster painting that we did the 2nd half of class.

This is the poster study.  I can't take credit for it, as my instructor did a generous paint-over to correct the numerous mistakes.  I've noticed I have a bad habit of mixing my colors too intense, overall.  But I'm hoping to train my eyes to perceive what's happening in nature more accurately.  Painting is a humbling exercise.  It certainly shows you how much you actually don't know.  But it's still a very enjoyable and rewarding journey so far.

Poster Study from Life

Painted a still life setup with my good buddy Craig.  3 hours.  Some of the colors are definitely off, but I was just happy to get the canvas covered.
